The Hands of Care

Sashiko embroidery and trapunto recreating mine and my mother’s hands on a repurposed duster

These are the hands, the hands of care

These hands will hold you

Anywhere-

Catch your fall

Bathe your knee

Wipe your tears

Make your tea.

And when these hands no longer nimble

To stitch the cloth

Or hold the thimble

Reach out in hope

They will be met

With kindness, care

And better yet-

These hands pass on to those to come

The joy, the fun

Of being Mum.
