About me
I’m Sarah, a socially engaged textiles artist committed to delivering inclusive, participatory projects that bring people together through creativity. With a First-Class degree in Costume Design with Textiles from the University of Huddersfield and ongoing MA study, my practice explores how making can support connection, wellbeing and a sense of belonging.
I collaborate with communities using textiles, conversation and storytelling to explore identity, memory and lived experience. Inspired by everyday objects and personal histories, I create welcoming spaces where participants can share knowledge, develop creative confidence and connect with others through the act of making.
My process often begins with poetry, a simple sketch or by responding to the materials themselves. I work intuitively using simple mark making, print and stitch, adding and removing layers to create surface pattern and texture.
My Socially Engaged Practice
I love creating spaces where people can come together to make, share and connect. My workshops are open, relaxed and inclusive, welcoming people of all ages and experiences. Through simple hands-on processes, I encourage participants to slow down, enjoy exploring materials and feel confident in their own creativity.
Much of my work is collaborative, where each person contributes to a larger collective project. Co-creation becomes a way of bringing stories together, sparking conversation and building a sense of connection, care and wellbeing within a group.
Based in Greater Manchester, I can frequently be seen travelling with my trusty ‘Textiles on Tour’ trolley filled with fabrics and haberdashery, ready for the next creative adventure.
